The Water Minister Graham Jacobs is facing calls to clarify whether he is a climate change sceptic.
This follows his revelations last night to a parliamentary committee he had forced the Department of Water to strip references to the term 'climate change' from some documents.
"There have been times that I have asked them to, in the documents that come by me."
Opposition water spokesman Fran Logan says Dr Jacobs was questioned on his stance on global warming but he refused to give a clear answer.
"(We put) a proposition to him that did he believe in climate change. He refused to answer and he gave all indications that he didn't believe that the climate was changing."
Dr Jacobs says his position on the matter has no impact on the way he runs the state's water portfolio.
"I'm not into talking about semantics about climate change or whatever. What I'm about is the responsible management of the water resource."
Mr Logan says if Dr Jacob's does not believe in climate change, this would seriously compromise his role as Water Minister and the Premier Colin Barnett must intervene.
"If he believes it's acceptable for the Minister for Water to be a disbeliever in global warming we are, as a state, in a serious problem.
"Western Australia is facing serious depletion of rainfall and has faced serious decrease in rainfall since 1975 as a result of climate change."
