Green Britain: Millions Of Families Hit By Never-Ending Rises In Energy Prices
Annual gas and electricity bills will soar above £1,500 for the first time later this year after Npower today unveiled an increase of more than 10 per cent across the UK.
Average annual dual-fuel bills will rise 10.4 per cent to £1,491 when customers pay “on receipt of bill”, but in four regions of the UK, London, South-Wales, Southern and parts of Scotland the average dual-fuel charge will top £1,500.
Across the country, Npower’s gas rates are going up by 11.1 per cent with electricity jumping by 9.3 per cent.
Echoing Scottish & Southern Energy and British Gas, Npower blamed the increase on the cost of meeting government environment and social levies, claiming “green” charges had gone up 31 per cent. Wholesale energy costs have climbed just 3 per cent.
